A little girl stopped me on the street and said, “Your picture is in my mother’s wallet!” When I saw her mother, I was speechless.

A shocking truth

Miranda, still between us, watched the scene in confusion.

And that’s when everything became clear.

She was my daughter.

Eight years…exactly the time since I left Meredith.

“You were pregnant…”  I breathed.

She nodded.

“And I knew that if I told you, it would only confirm your sister’s accusations. So I chose to go it alone.”

My world collapsed in an instant. All this time, I had had a daughter without knowing it. I had left a woman I loved to face life alone with a child.

A second chance

Tears welled up in my eyes.

“I made a huge mistake, Julia. I believed you were guilty without ever trying to understand. But now… now I want to make up for lost time.”

She stared at me for a long time before answering:

“We can try. But slowly. And at the first sign that you plan to disappear again…”

I nodded, realizing she was right.

Then, without warning, Miranda threw herself into my arms.

And in that embrace, I knew my life had just changed forever.
