A dream villa, an idyllic setting, and an improbable scene: a mother films the house she occupies without rights or title and states, bluntly, that she “deserves it.” This buzz from Spain has been triggering a wave of reactions online for several days.
A luxury villa occupied… for “personal merit”

The scene takes place in Cose Noves, an upscale residential neighborhood on the north coast of the island of Menorca. María Iguazo, a mother of five, has been living there for several days in a villa valued at €670,000, without a lease, without legal authorization… and with no apparent remorse.
In a video that went viral, she’s seen wandering around this 160 m² house with a swimming pool, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a clear view of the Mediterranean. Smiling, she teased : “Even Beyoncé couldn’t afford it.”
“I deserve it”: a justification that provokes indignation

But it’s not so much the illegal occupation as her words that are fueling the controversy: “I deserve it ,” she declares on camera. Receiving €1,500 in social assistance per month , according to the Spanish press, she seems to be claiming a right to a life of luxury, which has outraged many Internet users.
For many, this video embodies a clear abuse of the social system . For others, it highlights the reality of extreme poverty . One thing is certain: this case has left no one indifferent.
