Ingredients
3 1/2 cups (1 lb) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (4 oz) granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (6 oz) cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup (5 oz) raisins or sultanas
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups (10 fl oz) buttermilk (plus extra for brushing)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
