Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 2: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced smoked sausage and cook until lightly browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 3: In a mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper.
Step 4: Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Top with half the sausage, half the cheese, and half the sour cream mixture. Repeat layers.
Step 5: Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and green onions if using.
Step 6: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
Step 7: Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Storage Information:
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through. You can also microwave individual portions. This casserole is also freezer-friendly—just wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months.
