Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and creamy.
Step 4: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Step 5: Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 6: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
Step 7: Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
Step 8: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Step 9: Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still soft.
Step 10: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store chocolate chip cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
To keep cookies soft, place a slice of bread in the container with the cookies.
Freeze baked cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
You can also freeze cookie dough balls and bake them directly from frozen by adding 1 to 2 extra minutes to the baking time.
Warm cookies in the microwave for a few seconds before serving for a fresh-from-the-oven taste.
