Instructions
Step 1 In a bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
Step 2 In another bowl, mix mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Step 3 Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until light and creamy.
Step 4 In a separate bowl, combine the cooled coffee with coffee liqueur if using.
Step 5 Quickly dip or drizzle the chocolate cake pieces with the coffee mixture without soaking too much.
Step 6 In serving glasses, add a layer of soaked chocolate cake at the bottom.
Step 7 Add a generous layer of mascarpone cream on top.
Step 8 Repeat the layers until the glasses are filled, finishing with cream on top.
Step 9 Sprinkle chocolate chips or shavings over the top and dust with cocoa powder if desired.
Step 10 Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving for best flavor.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. These dessert cups are best served chilled and do not require reheating. Avoid freezing as the mascarpone cream may separate and lose its smooth texture.
