Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
Step 6: Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts if using.
Step 7: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Step 8: Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still soft.
Step 9: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
To keep the cookies soft, place a slice of bread in the container with the cookies.
For longer storage, freeze baked cookies or cookie dough for up to 3 months. Reheat cookies in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds for a freshly baked taste.
