Instructions
Step 1: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.
Step 3: Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
Step 4: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 5: Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring until combined.
Step 6: Season the sauce with salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, oregano, red pepper flakes if using, and sugar. Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 7: Stir in the fresh basil and adjust seasoning if needed.
Step 8: Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
Step 9: Serve warm topped with grated Parmesan cheese and extra basil if desired.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store leftover Classic Spaghetti Marinara in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave with a splash of water if needed. The sauce can also be frozen separately for up to 3 months.
