Instructions
Step 1: Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels, then season them lightly with salt and pepper on all sides.
Step 2: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt.
Step 3: In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the buttermilk to create a wet mixture.
Step 4: Dip each drumstick into the buttermilk mixture, coating it evenly, then dredge it thoroughly in the seasoned flour, pressing gently so the coating adheres well.
Step 5: Place coated drumsticks on a plate and let them rest for 10 minutes to set the coating.
Step 6: Heat oil to 350 degrees F in a deep fryer or large, heavy-bottomed pot.
Step 7: Carefully place 3-4 drumsticks into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding, and fry for 12-15 minutes until the coating is deep golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
Step 8: Transfer cooked drumsticks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 9: Serve hot with your favorite sides and enjoy.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store leftover fried chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The chicken will stay fresh and ready for quick meals throughout the week.
To reheat and maintain crispiness, place the drumsticks on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for about 10-12 minutes until heated through. Avoid microwaving, as it will make the coating soggy.
You can also freeze fried chicken for up to 3 months. Simply thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before reheating for best results.
