Decadent Chocolate Cake with Liquid Icing

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.

Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 3: Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Step 4: Stir in the boiling water until the batter is thin and well combined.

Step 5: Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 6: While the cake is baking, make the icing. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in cocoa and milk. Bring to a gentle boil, then remove from heat.

Step 7: Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.

Step 8: Pour warm icing over the hot cake and let it soak in.

Step 9: Cool slightly before slicing. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
