Nighttime is supposed to be a time of rest and recuperation, a soothing interlude in our busy days. Yet, sometimes our bodies take advantage of this time to send us subtle… but important signals. Intense fatigue upon waking, unusual night sweats, or persistent pain? According to a medical specialist, these often-trivial signs sometimes deserve serious attention.
When sleep alerts us: knowing the difference
Who hasn’t experienced a restless night after a stressful period, an overindulgent meal, or a seasonal cold? In most cases, these problems are not serious. But when a problem occurs repeatedly without any apparent cause, it may be time to listen to your body’s signals .
As Dr. Gérald Kierzek, medical director at Doctissimo, reminds us, there’s no need to worry about the slightest nighttime discomfort. What should be a warning sign is the persistence and intensity of the symptoms . Two of these, in particular, can sometimes reveal the existence of a more serious problem.
Night sweats: a sign not to be ignored

If you happen to wake up drenched in sweat, to the point where you have to change your sheets or clothes, for no apparent reason (no fever, normal room temperature), this deserves special attention.
According to Dr. Kierzek, severe night sweats can be one of the first signs of certain cancers, including lymphomas, certain leukemias, or neuroendocrine tumors. These conditions develop quietly at first, making their symptoms difficult to detect.
Of course, other causes exist , such as menopause or a one-off disorder, but if these episodes repeat themselves several nights in a row without a clear explanation, it is best to talk to your doctor.
