Instructions
step 1 Slice off the top of the quarter loaf of bread and hollow out some of the soft interior to create space for the fillings, being careful not to break through the crust./n
step 2 Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the beef burger patty until fully cooked through and nicely browned on both sides. Remove and set aside./n
step 3 In the same pan, cook the Russian sausage or boerewors until heated through and slightly charred. Slice if desired./n
step 4 Fry the egg to your preference, keeping the yolk slightly runny for extra richness if desired./n
step 5 Lightly warm the polony slices in the pan for 1–2 minutes per side./n
step 6 Begin assembling the Kota by layering the burger patty at the bottom of the hollowed bread, followed by cheese slices so they melt slightly from the heat./n
step 7 Add the polony, sausage, fried egg, and a generous handful of hot French fries./n
step 8 Top with shredded lettuce and sliced onions, then drizzle with tomato sauce, mayonnaise, and chili sauce if using./n
step 9 Place the bread top back on or leave open-faced. Serve immediately while warm.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Kota is best enjoyed fresh due to the combination of hot fillings and sauces. If needed, store cooked meats separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat meats in a skillet until warmed through before assembling. Avoid storing a fully assembled Kota, as the bread may become soggy.
