Kota Sandwich (South African Street Food)

Instructions

step 1 Prepare all the fillings: cook fries until golden and crispy, fry or grill sausage, bacon, and burger patty, and fry an egg to your preference.
step 2 Hollow out the center of the quarter loaf of bread, creating a bread bowl.
step 3 Begin layering: first add the fries at the base inside the bread.
step 4 Follow with bacon, ham, bologna, lettuce, tomato (if using), and onion.
step 5 Place the burger patty and top with a slice of cheese and the fried egg.
step 6 Add grilled sausage slices on top.
step 7 Drizzle generously with mayonnaise and ketchup or chili sauce.
step 8 Press everything slightly together and serve immediately.

Storage and Reheating Tips

Kota is best enjoyed fresh. If storing, wrap tightly and refrigerate for up to 1 day. Reheat meat fillings separately in the microwave or skillet, and reassemble before serving. Fries may lose crispiness when reheated, so it’s best to make fresh ones if possible.
