Kota (South African Street Sandwich)

Instructions:
step 1 Grill or pan-fry sausages and chicken/steak until fully cooked and nicely browned.
step 2 Fry French fries in hot oil until golden and crispy. Season with salt and pepper.
step 3 Hollow out the quarter loaf of bread, removing most of the inside to create space for fillings.
step 4 Layer the fries at the bottom of the loaf.
step 5 Add grilled meats on top of the fries, followed by the grated cheese and optional egg or sliced cheese.
step 6 Drizzle generously with BBQ sauce and spicy mayo or peri-peri sauce.
step 7 Press lightly to pack the sandwich and secure it with a skewer if needed.
step 8 Serve hot and enjoy immediately.

Storage and Reheating Tips:
Kota is best enjoyed fresh. However, components like the meat and fries can be stored separately in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat the meat and fries in an oven or air fryer before assembling. Avoid storing the full assembled kota to prevent the bread from getting soggy.
