Instructions

Step 1 In a small bowl mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish to make the burger sauce and set aside. /n
Step 2 Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the sliced onions until soft and caramelized, about 6–8 minutes. /n
Step 3 Season the ground beef with salt and black pepper and form into two thin patties. /n
Step 4 Cook the patties in a hot skillet for about 2–3 minutes per side until browned. /n
Step 5 Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the final minute so it melts. /n
Step 6 Butter one side of each slice of bread. /n
Step 7 Place one slice of bread butter-side down in a skillet and spread mayonnaise on the inside. /n
Step 8 Add one cheeseburger patty, caramelized onions, pickles, and burger sauce. /n
Step 9 Stack the second cheeseburger patty on top and close with the second slice of bread butter-side up. /n
Step 10 Grill the sandwich in the skillet for 2–3 minutes per side until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted. /n
Step 11 Slice in half and serve hot while the cheese is still gooey.

Storage and Reheating Tips

Store leftover burger patties and toppings separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the patties in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through. Assemble the sandwich fresh and toast the bread again for the best texture and flavor.
