Meaty Kota (South African Street Sandwich)

Instructions:
step 1 Cut the loaf of bread into quarters and hollow out the center of one quarter to form a bread bowl, leaving a thick edge.
step 2 Lightly butter the inside of the bread and toast on a pan or grill until golden and slightly crisp.
step 3 Begin layering the fillings starting with fries at the bottom.
step 4 Add grilled sausage slices, crispy bacon, and sautéed onions and peppers.
step 5 Sprinkle shredded cheese over the warm ingredients to let it melt slightly.
step 6 Top with sliced pickles or cucumber.
step 7 Drizzle with tomato chutney or BBQ sauce.
step 8 Season with salt and pepper as desired.
step 9 Press down slightly to compact, then serve immediately while warm.

Storage and Reheating Tips:
Kotas are best enjoyed fresh. If needed, store leftovers in foil in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Reheat in a toaster oven or air fryer to regain crispiness. Avoid microwaving to prevent soggy bread.
