Instructions
step 1 In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
step 2 Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
step 3 Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
step 4 In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté until softened.
step 5 Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat.
step 6 Gradually pour in beef broth and add Worcestershire sauce. Stir and simmer until thickened.
step 7 Return patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 10 minutes.
step 8 Meanwhile, boil potatoes until tender, then mash with milk, butter, and salt.
step 9 Steam or sauté asparagus with butter or oil and a pinch of salt until tender.
step 10 Serve Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and asparagus on the side.
Storage and Reheating Tips.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat steak and gravy in a skillet over medium-low heat or in the microwave. Mashed potatoes and asparagus can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water or milk for moisture.
