Scientists identify likely cause of colon cancer in young people

It’s a question that both disturbs and worries us. In recent years, colon cancer diagnoses have been increasing among people under 40. A phenomenon that remains mysterious… until now. Scientists have just identified an unexpected suspect: a very common bacterium that we’ve all likely encountered in our daily diet.

Colon cancer, an increasingly early scourge

Long associated with the elderly, colorectal cancer is now affecting a new population: young adults. The statistics are relentless. In the United States, cases among 20-34 year-olds are expected to jump by 90% by 2030. In France,  hepato-gastroenterologists  are also observing this alarming trend.

This cancer, once considered slow and late, is becoming a public health problem among those under 40. And the trigger could be hidden  in childhood .
