Who is most at risk of developing shingles?

It is estimated that approximately one in three people will develop shingles during their lifetime. However, certain conditions increase the risk:
- People over 50 years old , because immune defenses decline with age.
- People with immunocompromised conditions, such as those with cancer, undergoing chemotherapy, living with HIV, or having undergone a transplant.
- People who are very stressed, because chronic stress weakens natural defenses.
- Those who have recently experienced physical trauma or serious illness.
In short, as soon as your body shows a sign of weakness, the virus could well take advantage of it to come out of the shadows.
