The South African Seven-Colour Plate is a beloved Sunday or special occasion meal that celebrates a variety of vibrant and flavorful dishes on one plate. This hearty feast typically includes a mix of meats, vegetables, starches, and salads—each bringing its own unique color and taste to the table.

Ingredients:
For the stewed meat:
1 kg beef or lamb, cut into chunks
2 tbsp oil
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp ground paprika
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp thyme
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 beef stock cube
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups water

For the creamed spinach:
300 g spinach, chopped
1 tbsp butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup cream or evaporated milk
Salt and pepper to taste

For the mashed butternut:
500 g butternut squash, peeled and cubed
1 tbsp butter
Salt and pepper to taste

For the beetroot salad:
2 cups cooked beetroot, cubed
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
Salt to taste

For the chakalaka:
1 tbsp oil
1 onion, chopped
1-2 carrots, grated
1 cup baked beans
1 tomato, chopped
1 tsp curry powder
Salt and pepper to taste

For the creamy potato salad:
4 medium potatoes, cooked and cubed
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
1 tbsp chopped parsley
Salt and pepper to taste

For the fresh salad:
1 cucumber, chopped
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1 avocado, diced
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
