Technical inspection: a new measure expected for vehicles over 10 years old

Fight against fraudulent mileage: another key measure

Another important point of this reform:  odometer fraud , a phenomenon still common in used car sales. This manipulation distorts the real value of the vehicle and can put the buyer in danger.

The aim is to introduce  enhanced monitoring tools and to promote the introduction of a  digital vehicle history , accessible at any time.  A secure digital maintenance log , so to speak, to avoid unpleasant surprises.

And also: a parallel reform of the driving license

At the same time, the European Union is also working on  modernizing the driving license . Among the measures envisaged:

  • The generalization of the  digital driving license ,
  • The possibility of  driving a heavy goods vehicle from the age of 18 , subject to conditions,
  • A new validity period:  15 years for car and motorcycle licenses ,  5 years for heavy goods vehicles and buses .

Each country will be able to adjust these provisions, but the goal remains the same:  to harmonize the rules and strengthen security on a European scale.

What French motorists should anticipate

If this reform is adopted, it could have  a significant impact on owners of classic cars . In addition to the annual inspection requirement, this implies:

  • More frequent spending  ,
  • More regular repairs  ,
  • And  increased pressure to renew your vehicle .

Nothing has been voted on yet  : the proposal must go through the European Parliament and then be validated by each member state. But affected drivers should  keep an eye on legislative developments.

More responsible mobility in sight

This project is not intended to penalize motorists, but to  better regulate the safety of vehicles in circulation  and to  encourage the transition to cleaner mobility .

Because a well-maintained car  means fewer risks, fewer emissions, and more peace of mind for everyone.
