The traces left by a lack of love in childhood

The expression of emotions: an unknown language

The heart has its words… but you still have to know them. Those who grew up without  tender gestures or comforting words  often develop a complicated relationship with their emotions. They repress them, hide them, or ignore them, like hiding a weakness. The result: superficial relationships, or a diffuse malaise that’s difficult to name. Like a musician who learned to play without ever hearing the melody.

Anger transformed into aggression

Emotional emptiness can turn into anger, then into aggression. An adult who has suffered from a lack of love may carry a silent grudge, directed towards their parents, or more broadly towards society. This resentment, if not recognized and  channeled , can result in  abrupt reactions , harsh words, or even systematic rejection of others. It is a bit as if the pain, too heavy to bear,  manifests itself in outbursts of violence .

How to free yourself from it?

The good news is that this injury  is not irreversible . Being aware of it is already a first step. Therapy,  caring relationships , and love received in adulthood can  repair what was missing . It is not about erasing the past, but about learning to live with it, giving it meaning again.

Because even if it wasn’t sown in childhood, love can still sprout…  provided you devote time, patience and gentleness to it .
