An ancient remedy of disconcerting simplicity
This is where a trick passed down for decades by the elders comes in, and its effectiveness remains intact. During one of my unsuccessful attempts at repair, my grandfather watched me with amusement before sharing his secret:
“This leak has been a classic since flush toilets have existed. The solution? Simply add a slight counterweight to the valve.”
Although surprising at first glance, this method is based on a solid mechanical principle . By adding a minimal mass (a few grams are enough) to the moving part of the valve, the adhesion of the worn seal is improved. This additional pressure compensates for micro-defects in the rubber and effectively blocks unwanted flow.
Step-by-step implementation
The beauty of this solution lies in its simplicity and zero cost. You can use various small, everyday objects: a flat washer, a coin securely fastened with strong wire, or even a small nut. The important thing is to firmly attach it to the valve stem to create constant vertical pressure. The system remains completely mechanical and can be removed at any time.
Be careful, however, that this additional weight does not interfere with the normal operation of the mechanism. After installation, test it: if the leak disappears, you have just saved years of additional use for your flush.
