Step 1 Divide the ground beef into 4 loosely packed balls without overworking the meat.

Step 2 Heat a cast-iron skillet or flat griddle over high heat and lightly coat with vegetable oil.

Step 3 Place a beef ball onto the hot surface and immediately smash it flat using a spatula or burger press.

Step 4 Season the patty with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder while it cooks.

Step 5 Cook for about 2 minutes until the edges become crispy and browned.

Step 6 Flip the patty and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top.

Step 7 Cook for another 1 minute until the cheese melts and the burger is cooked through.

Step 8 Repeat the process with the remaining beef balls to make four smash patties.

Step 9 Toast the brioche buns in a pan with butter until golden brown.
/n
Step 10 Assemble the burger by stacking two cheesy smash patties on each bun with burger sauce and pickles if desired.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in a hot skillet for the best texture. Avoid microwaving if possible, as it can soften the crispy edges. If needed, warm the buns separately and assemble the burger just before serving.
