Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line three 8-inch cake pans.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar.
Step 3: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
Step 4: Slowly stir in the hot coffee until the batter is smooth.
Step 5: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Step 6: Bake for 28 to 32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
Step 7: Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and heavy cream until light and fluffy.
Step 8: Layer the cakes with chocolate frosting between each layer and frost the outside of the cake.
Step 9: Heat the semi-sweet chocolate with the heavy cream for the ganache until smooth, then pour over the cake and garnish with chocolate curls before serving.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store Ultimate Chocolate Layer Cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Allow refrigerated cake to sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before serving for the best texture.
Slices of cake can also be frozen for up to 2 months when wrapped tightly.
