What did Donald Trump’s blue suit at Pope Francis’ funeral mean, in violation of Vatican rules?

On X (formerly Twitter), criticism has been rife:

“He makes everything revolve around him,”  one internet user summed up.

“Even at the Pope’s funeral, he finds a way to put himself forward,”  wrote another.

Actor Billy Baldwin pointed out the irony: Trump, who had mocked Zelensky’s military attire,  was here flouting the dress codes of a religious and solemn occasion .

However, some saw the costume as a  form of symbolic statement  : the blue evoked rebirth, sovereignty, or authority. For others, it was a way to  emphasize the spiritual plurality  among the heads of state present.

What if it was intentional?

This wouldn’t be the first time Donald Trump has used his attire to send a message or grab attention. In the extremely solemn context of a papal funeral, standing out visually could be a way to  assert his individuality , or simply to ensure  maximum media visibility .

Some observers go further, believing that he even wanted to embody a  symbolic break with institutional codes , thus positioning himself as a figure apart from diplomatic and religious conventions.
