What does it mean when your dog licks your face or brings you toys?

A sign of submission

It’s important to remember that in the wild, dogs also use licking to show  submission  to a more dominant member of the pack. When a dog licks the face of a fellow dog or human, it’s acknowledging their  leadership status . If your dog licks you often, it may be their way of telling you that they consider you the  leader of their small tribe .

A request for attention or food

Sometimes, this gesture also hides a simple request: a little  food  or attention . If your dog licks you after eating something tasty, it’s possible he’s trying to  catch some leftover flavors  on your skin. Or, he’s simply trying to catch your eye to get a few  more strokes .
