An invisible but formidable disease
Kristina Hamilton, 42, has diffuse systemic sclerosis . This little-known but highly aggressive autoimmune disease causes the body to produce excessive amounts of fibrous tissue. The result: pain, stiffness, damage to internal organs, and significant physical changes . In her case, the disease has already altered her bone structure, caused her to lose her teeth, and put her lungs at risk.
In such a context, thinking about marriage was a distant, almost unattainable dream .
