Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until evenly coated.
Step 3: Roll out one pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie dish.
Step 4: Pour the apple filling into the crust and spread evenly. Dot the top with small cubes of butter.
Step 5: Cover with the second pie crust or create a lattice top if desired. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.
Step 6: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to make an egg wash. Brush it over the top crust.
Step 7: Sprinkle coarse sugar over the crust for extra crunch and sweetness.
Step 8: Cut small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Step 9: Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Step 10: Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store leftover apple pie covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat slices in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes to maintain the flaky crust. Apple pie can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
