Instructions

Step 1. Heat a skillet or flat-top griddle over medium-high heat.
/n Step 2. Divide the ground beef into four loose balls without packing them too tightly.
/n Step 3. Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet and smash them flat using a spatula to create thin patties.
/n Step 4. Season the patties with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
/n Step 5. Cook the patties for about 2–3 minutes until a crispy crust forms on the bottom.
/n Step 6. Flip the patties and place slices of cheddar cheese on top so they melt while cooking for another 1–2 minutes.
/n Step 7. In a small bowl mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and smoked paprika to create the burger sauce.
/n Step 8. Butter the bread slices and toast them lightly in another pan until golden.
/n Step 9. Spread the sauce on the toasted bread, place the cheesy smashed patties on top, and add extra melted cheese if desired.
/n Step 10. Close the melt with another toasted slice and press lightly before serving hot.

Storage and Reheating Tips

Store leftover burger patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the patties in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through and the edges become slightly crispy again. Bread is best toasted fresh when assembling the melt to maintain its crunchy texture.
