Common household product leaves little girl ‘blind in one eye’

Sometimes, a seemingly insignificant gesture can turn an entire life upside down. In the peace and quiet of a family home, who would have thought that a simple laundry detergent capsule would become the source of serious injuries? This is the story of Luca, a little girl who suffered a domestic accident as brutal as it was unexpected, and which is a cause for concern for all parents.

When innocence meets danger

It was an ordinary day in Perth, Australia. Jodi Lowe, mother of four-year-old Luca, was doing the laundry, her ever-curious daughter by her side. Like many parents, she thought it was safe to let her daughter hold a washing machine pod for a few seconds.

But in an instant, everything changed: Luca bit into the capsule, releasing the concentrated chemical liquid. Panicked, the child rubbed her eyes, worsening the burns. Despite a quick shower to rinse off the chemicals,  the pain persisted .

Dramatic consequences

After a 16-day hospital stay and several surgeries, Luca was able to return home, but  her vision  has still not fully recovered in one eye. Doctors estimate that the redness and after-effects around her eyes could last up to a year.

Jodi, still very moved, testifies:

“I never thought that such a common household product could lead to three operations and such injuries.”

This tragedy highlights the inadequacy of warnings on the packaging of certain brands.
