Instructions
Step 1: Pat fish fillets dry with paper towels. Mix flour, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl.
Step 2: Dredge each fish fillet in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Step 3: Fry fish fillets 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
Step 4: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Step 5: Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring well.
Step 6: Add Cajun seasoning and cayenne pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 2 minutes.
Step 7: Add shrimp to the sauce and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.
Step 8: Season with lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir in fresh chives.
Step 9: Pour the creamy Cajun shrimp onto a serving plate and top with the crispy fried fish fillets. Serve immediately.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store shrimp and sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep fried fish separate in another container to maintain its crispiness.
Reheat the shrimp mixture gently in a saucepan over low heat, adding a splash of cream if needed. Reheat fish in a 350°F oven for 5 to 8 minutes until warmed through.
For best results, enjoy this dish fresh on the same day you make it. The fried coating stays crispier when eaten immediately.
