Instructions
Step 1 Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line two round cake pans.
Step 2 In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 3 Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
Step 4 In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 5 Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until smooth.
Step 6 Divide the batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, then let cool completely.
Step 7 Layer the cakes with buttercream frosting and cover the entire cake with a smooth coat.
Step 8 Tint portions of frosting with blue and white coloring and spread for a textured design.
Step 9 Shape small geese using fondant and place them on top and around the cake.
Step 10 Chill slightly before serving to set the decorations.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store the cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Bring to room temperature before serving for best flavor and texture. The cake can also be frozen (without fondant decorations) for up to 2 months.
