Millennial prophecy about future pope contains chilling warning

The death of Pope Francis on April 21 at the age of 88 deeply affected millions of faithful around the world. But beyond the mourning and tributes, an ancient prophecy has resurfaced… and caused some concern. A mysterious text, nearly 1,000 years old, reportedly announces that Francis’s successor would be the very last pope. A somber message, tinged with disturbing symbolism.

A forgotten prophecy resurfaces

It is in the twists and turns of religious history that some Internet users have found this prediction. Known as the  “Prophecy of the Popes” , it was reportedly written in the 12th century by  Saint Malachy , an Irish archbishop who was canonized after his death. This document, made up of  112 symbolic mottoes , is said to have designated each pope with astonishing precision… until today.

And according to this interpretation, Pope Francis would be the  111th pontiff , suggesting that there is only one more pope to come.

The last pope: “Peter the Roman”

The prophecy ends with an enigmatic sentence:

“Peter the Roman will feed his sheep in the midst of many tribulations. After this, the city with seven hills will be destroyed and the dread Judge will judge the people. The end.”

This final figure,  Peter the Roman , is striking. It seems to refer to  Saint Peter , the first bishop of Rome, and to the origins of the Catholic Church.
