Marking a territory: myth or reality?

Another, much more controversial theory is circulating, particularly in certain urban areas of the United States: gangs use these shoes to signal their presence in a territory. A pair of suspended sneakers would then be the symbol of a place under their control. However, no solid evidence actually supports this claim, and law enforcement itself remains cautious on the subject. In French cities, this interpretation remains marginal and poorly documented.
Harassment or bad joke?
Still others evoke a darker scenario: that of bullying or harassment at school. It’s easy to imagine, in a movie or in a schoolyard, a child having their shoes ripped off before being thrown out of reach onto an electrical cable. This type of situation, while plausible, seems to be rare rather than the norm.
