Instructions
Step 1: Divide the ground beef into 4 loosely packed balls without overworking the meat.
Step 2: Heat a heavy skillet or griddle over high heat and lightly coat with cooking oil.
Step 3: Place a beef ball on the hot surface and firmly smash it flat using a spatula to create thin crispy edges.
Step 4: Season the patties with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Step 5: Cook for about 2 minutes until the edges become crispy and browned.
Step 6: Flip the patties and immediately place slices of American cheese on top so they melt.
Step 7: Butter the bread and bun halves and toast them in a pan until golden and crisp.
Step 8: Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard together to create a simple burger sauce.
Step 9: Stack the cheesy smash patties on the toasted bun and bread layers, adding sauce between layers if desired.
Step 10: Secure the tall burger with a skewer, slice if needed, and serve immediately while hot and juicy.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in a hot skillet for 1–2 minutes per side to bring back the crispy edges. For best results, toast fresh bread and assemble the burger just before serving.
